We are heading to Praiano in late July for a week! Do you have any advice on getting there as well as itinerary recommendations and places to eat? This place looks like a dream.

The restaurant at Il Pirata (resto and beach club on the water) had wildly improved last year. Very good. Not cheap but we had some great lunches. Tucked into the ravine where the chair/free beach are is a restaurant called Donna Clelia Bar Mare. They make a pasta with like… pesto of the sea. Sauce is crushed walnuts and anchovy (plus parsley and lemon). It’s sooo good. Easiest way to get there is to just hire a driver to do the transfer. If you are coming from Positano or Capri then a hydrofoil/ferry gets you from Capri to Positano. From Positano you can water taxi if you are staying at Onda Verde or right near the beach (La Praia). Otherwise from Positano take a taxi. let me find the cell # of some drivers you can schedule. Schedule all taxis and transfers in advance. They really do book up. About €150 each way from Naples if I recall.

Also I would do some mix of:

2 or 3 days at the beach. Book chairs in advance by calling or Whatsapp’ing Il Pirata. I go to Nico the day before and bribe him for good chairs. Very important.

another day you can arrange ahead a water taxi with La Sibilla to take you to Amalfi and to pick up. Have lunch there and visit the church.

Hire a “gozzo” for half or full day. La Sibilla. They have towels and soft drinks on the boat so bring chilled white wine and sandwiches. You can get sandwiches to go at the little bodega on the beach (La Conchilia). Ask to head past Amalfi toward Minori. Ask to stop at the famous bakery. Get the famous lemon cake thing. You only need to make a ~15 min stop. Ask to keep going to swim in the big cave. I think it’s called horse something. Do not *not* do a boat day. Don’t try to do too much. Enjoy La Praia beach. And do walk along the amalfi coast road in the evening. Like a looong walk. I did this once and it was great. Also walk to Furore in midday or afternoon to watch people dive. That’s fun.

Thank you so much! This is all so helpful. Is it necessary to buy a ticket for the water taxi in Positano in advance?

It helps to call or WhatsApp a water taxi in advance. There is no ticket per se, but you can just stand at the dock and ask one of the many boat guys to find one for you or best is to call/text ahead to arrange it.

If you need to go to La Praia in Praiano, then arrange ahead of time with La Sabilla (because Praiano is their base).

Hmmm are you logged into Substack? If you are logged in you should be able to access that newsletter. Also if you haven’t already, pls download the Substack app because then you’ll know you’re logged in for sure and you will have access to everything. Pls let me know if you still have access problems after trying that.

Was the Praiano newsletter you mention at the end of this one published? It mentions that it will only be for paid subscribers. I'm logged into the app, but I don't see it. No worries if it's not available! Just wanted to check. :)
